Updated guidance to improve your app quality and discovery on Google Play
Google Play Store was launched in 2008. At that time, it was very easy to use the Google Play Store. Everyone could understand the basic algorithm of the Google Play Store. But being the passage of time more unique and advanced features were added to make it more useful.
In 2008, developers easily published their apps at that time because there were only a few apps; so it was very easy for the developers to rank their apps without facing any hurdle. Developers just created their apps and then published them. There was no need to follow any strict requirements.
Being the passage of time, the Google Play Store became more and more popular. Everyone started taking interest in it. More and more apps were added to it. So the competition to rank any app has also become very high and Google has changed its policies from time to time. According to some reports, every day thousands of apps are uploaded to the Google Play Store. Now, there are millions of gaming apps and other useful apps are available and these apps are working in more than 190 countries and territories around the world.
A developer needs to provide every single detail of his app like app title, app description, meta tags, attractive images, and videos because this thing attracts the users to download an app. It's very good for an app to have high-resolution graphics because Google encourages those apps that have high-resolution graphics. Many apps that are available in the Play Store have a good volume of downloads because of their in-demand features and high-class resolution. Here we will discuss some updated guidance to improve your app quality and discovery on the Google Play Store. Recently, Google has announced a policy change for app metadata and introducing new guidelines on store listing preview assets. First of all, we will discuss policy change for app metadata.
Pre-announce policy change for app metadata:
It is a very clear-cut concept that developer name, app name, and icon are the most important discovery elements that are used in developing or designing new app. There are millions of gaming apps and other different apps are published in the Google Play Store but not a single app is published without these discovery elements. So it is clear that these discovery elements play a vital role in recognizing your app on the Google Play Store. Recently, Google has announced that they are almost ready to launch a new and unique set of policies that help your app to be visible in a unique and modern way. The following factors are available in this new set of policies.
- Google puts a strict limit on the length of the app title. Now the length of the app title cannot exceed 30 characters. It must include 30 characters or less than 30 characters.
- Developers cannot use those keywords that promote the developer name, app title, and icon. And developers also cannot use those keywords that imply store promotion.
- Google also takes a step to truncate all the graphics elements because sometimes they mislead the users in the app icon.
Every developer who wants to publish his app on the Google Play Store must have followed the above mentioned policies because Google has straightly mentioned that app title, developer name, and an icon that will not follow upcoming policy requirements then Google will not publish those apps. A developer needs to work according to Google policies so that he can publish his app without facing any difficulty. Google also says that there will be expected that more policy changes will be added in the upcoming years or maybe the end of this year. Here we are mentioning some Dos and Don'ts so a developer can work accordingly.
Do:
- Use an app title that must have 30 or less than 30 characters.
- Always use a title according to the app.
- Use a clear and unique icon.
Don't:
- Always avoid using graphic elements.
- Do not use anything like text or any other material that indicates ranking.
- Do not use any material that will help to promote any detail of your app.
- Do not use any material that indicates incentivize installs or like plays programs.
- Do not use any type of emojis or emoticons.
- Special characters aren't allowed.
It is very much important for a developer to follow these Dos and Don'ts. In short, a developer can only fulfill the upcoming policies by following these Dos and Don'ts.
Now we will discuss another Google update. This update is about introducing new guidelines for store listing preview assets
New Guidelines for store listing preview assets:
Google takes a step to announce the guidelines for new store listing preview assets for the screenshots, graphic features, short descriptions, and videos that will help to showcase your app functionality and features. Developers must have to keep in mind the following new guidelines.
- It is predominant for a new app that its preview assets represent the new app correctly.
- The preview assets need to provide enough information to help the user make up their mind to install this app.
- Preview assets must be written or designed in such a way that the user can easily read and view them.
- The developer must have to provide meaningful information about the app.
- The developer must not provide any meaningless information or any type of buzzwords.
The developer must follow all the above mentioned information to publish their apps. Google is trying hard to implement these new guidelines as soon as possible. Google has strongly mentioned that they will start implementing these guidelines in the second half of 2021. Those types of assets that will not meet the new guidelines; these apps will become ineligible for recommendation and promotion on major Google Play surfaces like home, games, and apps. Google has also announced that may be more guidelines for store listing preview assets that will also be added.
From now onwards, developers should start following policy changes for app metadata and guidelines for store listing preview assets.
