Did you know that your movements can be tracked through your smartphone? In fact, many companies are tracking your day to day activities via your phone. And it is happening with your consent! Yes, many of us don’t read the terms and conditions of service and simple “agree” with the terms.
So, if you want to stop this unnecessary surveillance from others through your phone, follow these simple steps to protect your privacy and personal data. Have a look:
Change your phone's location.
You can stop the tracking process tweaking your phone’s location. The feature is present in every Android phone under the privacy settings, and by default, it records your daily activities. The feature is known as "Frequent Locations." To change the location and the default settings of this feature, follow these steps.
- First, go to the phone’s settings.
- Now look for the "Location" tab.
- Inside the tab, you will see "Google Location Settings."
- Now, go to "Location Reporting" and "Location History" and switch both these off.
Similarly, it would be best if you delete your device's location cache by clicking on the "Delete Location History" button under the "Location History" tab.
If you have multiple Google accounts on your device, apply the same for each account.
Control App’s permissions.
Before installing any app on your smartphone, check the permissions that they need. Some apps notify and ask for your permission when you are installing the app. Some apps ask for additional info than what they need. That information goes to the companies that use it for various purposes and tracks your activity.
So, checking apps permission when installing it is necessary as it is related to your privacy and prevents unnecessary use of your info.
Prevent Google from tracking your location and activity
Google services and apps are being criticized for keeping your location and data. But you can prevent this tracking from your phone’s settings:
To turn off the Web and App Activity follow these steps:
First, log in to Google Account.
Then look for "Your personal info" under the "Privacy" tab.
Now you will "Manage your Google Activity" on the screen’s left side, click on it and look for "Go To Activity Controls."
In this tab, you can control and turn off various settings related to your data.
Similarly, you can also turn off location history by using these settings. However, some users only pause their "Location History" that doesn't turn off location markers, and Google can still monitor your activity. Instead, always turn off the feature to protect your privacy.
Pay Attention to your online accounts.
When you create accounts with any other company such as Microsoft or Facebook, you are actually providing your data and location along with other details. These companies can easily track and monitor your activities through their algorithms and use it for targeted ads and relevant posts. So, we will advise you to look and their privacy controls and understand what the company knows about you.
