How to Stop Kids from Talking to Strangers on Nintendo Switch

If your kids like to spend hours and hours playing Nintendo Switch, chances are higher that they might be talking to strangers while playing online games. We are not saying that they shouldn’t play games on Nintendo Switch, but talking to strangers can be dangerous.

Luckily, there is a simple way to overcome this problem, and by using this simple control, you can stop your kids from talking to strangers on Nintendo Switch.

Use Nintendo’s Parental Controls App

First, you will have to register on Nintendo’s Parental App. This handy app is free and works well with iOS, iPad and Android devices. Setup is also a breeze and takes only a few minutes.

How to Restrict Communicating with strangers via Parental Controls App

After setting up the app, open the controls on your smartphone. If you are using more than one console, choose the switch you like to control from the screen's top corner. Then go to the “Console Settings” located at the screen’s bottom side and follow these steps.

·       Click "Console Settings. “Then look for “Restriction Level” in “Console Settings.”

·       Click on the "Restriction Level."

Under this tab, you will find several profiles like "Pre-Teen", "Teen" and "Kids". All these have different restrictions. If you pick "Teen" it will enable communication with others while gaming.

However, in "Pre-Teen" or "Child" profiles communicating with strangers is disabled.

You can gain more control over these settings. Follow these steps to do so:

·       Look for the "Custom Settings" tab and then click "Communicating with Others."

·       In this tab, flip the switch by “Restrict Communicating with Others” to switch it on.

·       Now, go to the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls App and allow "Restrict Communicating with Others."

Under the “Restrict Communicating with Others” tab, you’ll find details of all the installed games on that specific switch console. Here, you can customize restrictions for any installed game via the toggle switch.

This comes in handy when you want to enable communication for any particular game. To do so, just switch off the switch that you will find near the game name under the “Communicating with Others” tab. Now, kids can connect and talk to others while playing this particular game.

Some Controlled Communication Examples

Keep in mind that the “Restrict Communicating with Others” options work differently in different games. Generally, it prevents users from chatting with other players, whether via voice, messages, text, signs, or some other mode. But it differs from game to game. Look at these examples.

·       If the game has Voice Chat Features: it will get disabled.

·       In Animal Crossing: It will prevent users from mailing letters to others.

·       In Fortnite: Users cannot voice chat with strangers and other users.

·       In Minecraft: it will prevent online play even with friends.

·       In Splatoon2: Users cannot read other user's posts.

These are only a few samples; so keep experimenting to exactly know the effects of this feature. But one this for sure, your kids will not talk to strangers anymore while playing Nintendo Switch. Happy gaming!
